How this deck board calculator works
Deck width determines how many board rows are needed based on board face width plus gap. Each row is divided by stock board length and the result is increased for waste.
How to use it
- Deck length along boards. Enter the value in ft.
- Deck width across boards. Enter the value in ft.
- Board face width. Enter the value in in.
- Gap between boards. Enter the value in in.
- Stock board length. Enter the value in ft.
- Waste allowance. Enter the value in %.
- Request the result. Add your email, then select “Email & show my result.”
What to do with the number
This is a surface-board estimate only; joists, beams, blocking, fascia and fasteners are separate. Choose stock lengths that minimize end joints before assuming every row needs the same number of boards.
Use this result as a starting point, not a guarantee. Product specifications, site conditions, manufacturer guidance, local codes, taxes, labor, tolerances, and rounding can change the real requirement or cost.
