How this paint calculator works
Wall area is room perimeter × wall height, minus standard door and window areas. That paintable area is multiplied by the number of coats and waste allowance, then divided by the coverage printed on the paint can.

What to do with the number
Use the unrounded gallons to compare brands and the rounded-up gallon count as the practical purchase estimate. Coverage varies with texture, color change and application method. Replace the 350 sq ft default with the manufacturer’s stated coverage when you know it.
Use this result as a starting point, not a guarantee. Product specifications, site conditions, manufacturer guidance, local codes, taxes, labor, tolerances, and rounding can change the real requirement or cost.
