How this primer calculator works

The calculator estimates paintable wall area, subtracts standard openings, applies the selected primer coats and waste, then divides by your primer’s coverage rate.

What to do with the number

A highly porous surface or dramatic color change can require more primer than a previously painted, smooth wall. New drywall, repaired patches and raw masonry often absorb primer differently; use the can’s coverage figure and a larger allowance when the surface is thirsty.

Planning estimate

Use this result as a starting point, not a guarantee. Product specifications, site conditions, manufacturer guidance, local codes, taxes, labor, tolerances, and rounding can change the real requirement or cost.
