How this ev vs gas cost calculator works
Gas cost is annual miles ÷ MPG × fuel price. EV battery energy is annual miles ÷ mi/kWh; charging loss is added before multiplying by electricity price.
How to use it
- Annual miles. Enter the value in miles.
- Gas vehicle economy. Enter the value in MPG.
- Gas price. Enter the value in $/gal.
- EV efficiency. Enter the value in mi/kWh.
- EV charging price. Enter the value in $/kWh.
- Charging loss. Enter the value in %.

What to do with the number
The comparison covers energy only, not purchase price, insurance, maintenance, taxes or depreciation. If you use public fast charging often, use a blended electricity rate rather than your home utility rate.
Use this result as a starting point, not a guarantee. Product specifications, site conditions, manufacturer guidance, local codes, taxes, labor, tolerances, and rounding can change the real requirement or cost.
