There is no universal boxes-per-bedroom number because household density varies dramatically. Use home size as a baseline, then adjust for closets, books, kitchenware, hobbies, storage areas and how aggressively you declutter before packing.
How to work it out
- Start from the home-size baseline.
- Increase the estimate for dense storage, books, collections or long occupancy.
- Decrease it if you have recently decluttered or own little furniture/storage.
- Buy a mix of small, medium and large boxes rather than one size.
- Keep a small reserve for late packing and fragile-item separation.
Example
A lightly furnished 1-bedroom may use far fewer boxes than a studio occupied for ten years by someone with books, tools and hobby supplies. Packing density is the key adjustment.
Large boxes are not ideal for dense heavy items. Box count and box-size mix are different planning questions.
