How this quilt backing fabric calculator works
Backing dimensions add overhang to both sides. The calculator determines how many fabric widths are needed, multiplies by backing length and adds extra allowance before converting to yards.
How to use it
- Quilt width. Enter the value in in.
- Quilt length. Enter the value in in.
- Backing overhang each side. Enter the value in in.
- Usable fabric width. Enter the value in in.
- Extra allowance. Enter the value in %.
- Request the result. Add your email, then select “Email & show my result.”
What to do with the number
The estimate assumes simple seamed backing with fabric widths running along the quilt length. Wide-back fabric can eliminate seams; enter its actual usable width to compare yardage.
Use this result as a starting point, not a guarantee. Product specifications, site conditions, manufacturer guidance, local codes, taxes, labor, tolerances, and rounding can change the real requirement or cost.
